Welcome

In October 2009, Lancashire Library and Information Service is working closely with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to support The Learning Revolution Festival: a celebration of everything that’s great about learning for pleasure.

The Festival celebrates all kinds of informal adult learning and the difference learning makes to individuals, families, communities and organisations. Throughout the month, hundreds of events will highlight the wide variety of learning that's taking place. It will give people who are already taking part in informal learning a chance to celebrate what they enjoy and others the opportunity to try something new.

Informal adult learning covers a broad spectrum of activities – from joining a local sports team to researching something of interest online. It also has a wealth of advantages, as it is proven to benefit mental and physical wellbeing and bring communities closer together.

During the course of Lancashire's festival celebrations, Jenn Ashworth, the writer in residence will be holding creative writing workshops and updating this blog with news about all the different events and activities taking place over the month. You can subscribe to this blog using a reader (click here to find out more about how to do this) or follow us on twitter to keep up to date with events and activities in your area.

The whole aim of The Learning Revolution Festival is to ensure that everybody has access to these wonderful experiences, especially people from disadvantaged backgrounds and those who aren’t currently getting involved in any form of learning. We would also be delighted to have your support. You can do this by providing your own local event during October, by giving your staff the opportunity to try something new on a particular day, or simply by telling more people about our events.

If you'd like us to feature your learning event or opportunity on this blog, please get in touch by emailing us at lancsalf@gmail.com or leaving your details as a comment.

The Learning Revolution Festival is the start of a journey to widen awareness, participation and support of informal adult learning.

Be part of it.
